WHO HERE IS A FAN OF THE BEAUTIFUL BLUE IRIS?




1. The iris has three petals and each one stands for something different: faith, wisdom, and valor.







2. The iris has three upward petals called standards and three downward sepals called falls. The falls look like the main petals of the iris! Sometimes these sepals can be covered with appendage which is called a beard.






3. Irises are perennials. They can survive around 2 years in the wild on their own!









4. In Greek mythology, Iris was a messenger from the gods and was a goddess of the rainbow.




In Iris' footsteps, irises would bloom! She traveled on a rainbow, and iris means rainbow as this beautiful flower comes in a vast array of colors.






5. Iris is February's birth flower! Do you know what your birth flower is?






6. Indian and Egyptian ancient culture used irises for perfume and for medical purposes.






7. The most common types of irises grown are the Bearded Iris and Siberian Iris and there are more than 300 species of iris.
